It's such a pleasure to welcome you here and present to you our multi-talented and dedicated teachers. After eight years of teaching, and almost 7 years of managing and owning Hot Yoga of Woodinville, I am continually inspired by the teachers who come from Bikram's training, and I continue to learn from each of them. With each year, I find myself only more and more convinced of the truth and wisdom of Bikram's teachings: "You are never too old, never too sick, it is never too late to begin again and rebuild your body and your life..."
Anyone can do this yoga. Everyone benefits. Norbert, Sandy, Tim
My practice and teaching is Bikram's Yoga - by the book, inside out, bones to skin, fingertips to toes. This is how I learned it, how Bikram taught it to me, and just as I have practiced it for more than 30 years. I did learn it first from a book, the very first edition of Bikram's Beginning Yoga, when I was a young mom, living in rural Montana. For stress relief and pain control I ran and practiced Bikram Yoga alone and with friends for many years. My continuing success, as long as I practice, always keeps me going and wanting to teach. That and being determined to get my forehead to my knee. I trained at Bikram's headquarters in LA, and was certified by Bikram Choudury in 2003. I love this yoga, I am deeply grateful to Bikram for this yoga, and I love bringing it to our students. A sweet community of people practices here, and you are always welcome and invited to join us here
Christine
Christine has been teaching for us since 2007, just few months after her return from teacher training. She found Bikram Yoga as a college student, in the winter of 2001 and felt the benefits within a week of daily practice. The practice sustained her throughout her undergraduate years at UW, and eventually the effects of Bikram Yoga on her own life inspired her to teach this healing art to others. She joined Bikram in Honolulu in the spring of 2007 for teacher training, where the rigors of the nine-week course were generously offset by the fun of studying dialogue on the sandy beaches of Waikiki, and drinking copious amounts of fresh coconut water and pineapple juice. Christine was intent on finishing her masters degree for the first few years of her teaching, and she juggled yoga teaching with her education to finish her masters degree in education, hoping to teach pre-teen children. But she is so happy in the hot room, and so good at teaching. Her continuing devotion to practicing, studying and teaching Bikram Yoga pays off big time for her students. Christine speaks three languages -- English, Mandarin and Japanese, would always rather be too hot than too cold and loves Bikram's singing.
Grant
With us for a short time only (so get his class quick while you can) Grant is visiting home in Renton on a break from a year of teaching in Jakarta and Bali. He'll return there soon, it's been a lot of fun to have him and we look forward to his return when he gets tired of the equatorial temperatures and endless opportunities. Above, you see him demonstrating the proper way to do Eagle, in contrast to the yoga chick in the background poster. At least as best he can.
Sha
Sha graduated from teacher training in the fall of 2010 in San Diego. Her practice of yoga began yoga 8 years ago, and she found Bikram yoga a year ago in Everett. She is an inspiring devotee of Bikram's Yoga and she is determined to become the best of teachers, in every way she is making good on this determination. She remembers her own first class, when she intended never to return. One short year later she is a certified teacher and wants never to stop again and still loves every single practice. Sha and her husband own and operate a small electrical contracting business and they have a son and a baby granddaughter. Sha can't wait till she gets big enough to take her inside the hot room!
Tessie
![]() Tessie's initial fitness passion was running -- on and off for 30 years, road races and marathons. The continuous jarring impact caused injuries and stress fractures, and and she was looking for another fitness program to help with these injuries.
Tessie noticed a Bikram hot yoga studio close to her home in the fall of 2009. She visited the studio and since then is hooked! She was personally touched by the passion and mentoring of the Bikram staff, not just pushing physically but helping mentally as well. She decided to become a certified teacher and graduated under Bikram Choudary himself last fall 2010 in San Diego. Tessie says this has been the best thing in her life, she really wants to spend the rest of her life helping others change their lives also. Turning 60 next year, all she can say is "I've never felt better." Denise
Denise began Bikram Yoga in February 2007, and her only regret is that she didn't start it sooner. Bikram Yoga always gave her energy, renewed her spirit, and completely eliminated her chronic back pain (and a myriad of other physical ailments). It helped her balance out her life -- mind, body, spirit, the whole body -- little by little, day by day. With patience and hard work, Bikram Yoga has changed her life in countless ways, in every aspect and corner of her life. What came next was inevitable: In November 2011, Denise proudly graduated from Bikram Yoga College of India as a Bikram Yoga teacher, so she can heal others too, one student at a time.
Where are the teachers who used to teach?
![]() Allie
Allie has been continuing her yoga journey, don't be surprised to see her show up - maybe - we hope, at times when we can get her here. Allie has been teaching in Portland, OR. We love this quote she gave us:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” -Marianne Williamson Katie
Katie is going to India to teach Bikram Yoga for a year. Isn't it funny, there is just one, new studio there. Even though it began there. And teachers from here go there to teach now. She's been teaching and practicing in Tri-Cities and continuing to develop her amazing practice.
Maggie
Maggie's been teaching far to the south now, and has moved to West Seattle and settled into a new house with her husband. We miss her and hope to have her here sometimes in the future!
"You have nothing to lose. You had nothing to begin with." - Bikram Roxanne So busy with work and life, when Roxanne teaches (and we still try to get her here) expect amazing support as she challenges you to practice and heal your own body. Roxanne excells at teaching in the moment to the students who are present in the room. |
